“Reasons Why” — Saving Jane
In the company of strangers I am less than fine
I am turning into wallpaper before your eyes
Somehow I always end up on the wrong side of this fight
One day I will get it right

Very cool rendition of Amaya by ~gelato. I haven’t commissioned in a long time because even though I look for super-deals, I can’t justify spending the money… But ~gelato has such a great style and has $5.00 commissions for full-body flats that I couldn’t resist snagging two.
I like to let my commissioners pick which of my characters to draw (unless I think one in particular would suit their style). I’ve been there and it’s harder to draw something you have zero interest in so I like to give them that. :3
Finally drew Amaya with her haircut.
I really think that this was a changing point in her characterization. I’ve felt for a while that she was holding onto teenage-level immaturity in a lot of ways and I think she realized that too… And used a Symbolic Haircut to cut away that immaturity.
She’s still bitter and self-centered but at least she doesn’t mope as overtly anymore.
One of Ashlee’s sweet Halloween commissions of Amaya dressed as Red Riding Hood. I was remarking to her that it’s kind of out-of-character for Amaya to remotely care enough to do Halloween costumes, but Nilla probably talked her into it (and picked the costume, etc).
Making a lot of decisions here and there concerning tweaks to my characters’ designs before I do those ref sheets for ‘em. I’m considering tweaking Amaya (hair), Gwendolynne (hair and possibly more?) and Valentine (eye color).
Mostly Amaya today. I’m considering lopping all of her hair off except for the braids in the front, but I’m not sure if she’d actually do that. Maybe make it a “version” of her? Ugghhnn I dunno. I feel like her character is ready to grow up a little bit.
Amaya with her cousins, Rebecca’s twin siblings Milo & Morgan.
Amaya sees no evil, Milo dun’ wanna hear no evil and Morgan’s… you get the idea.

Finally gave Amaya a better hairstyle in 2009!

Origin of Amaya. I was listening to The Lion King soundtrack and drew a random lioness on oekaki. I liked her enough to keep. Someone on the board suggested the name “Amaya” and it stuck!

I’d doodled a lioness, Amaya, prior to this, in early 2002. This was some doodling to get the feel of her. Long limbs are looong.
